Local businesses and community organisations are encouraged to enter a team of 20 people to challenge one another on Lake Illawarra. Dragon Boats NSW provide the boats and sweepers and the community is encouraged to come down and support the teams and cheer them on.
The 2010 event saw a record 22 teams participate with four new teams (Kiama Council, Pioneer Pirates, Shellharbour City Rowing Club and Internetrix) joining the challenge and Southbound Adventures were keen to defend their title that have won for the past 3 years.
The weather turned out great after a cloudy morning and after the heats the major final saw Jamberoo Public School, Southbound Adventures, Pioneer Pirates and Shellharbour City Rowing Club take to the Lake for the perpetual trophy. It was a very close challenge but in the end Shellharbour City Rowing Club came in first with a time of 1:02.72 followed by the Pioneer Pirates with a time of 1:04.44 with Jamberoo Public School hot on their heels with a time of 1:05.58 and Southbound Adventures chasing up the rear with a time of 1:05.83.
