The 2011 event saw over 310 eager walkers and runners turn out for the Shellharbour City Festival of Sport's Shell Cove Walk or Run for Fun on Sunday 6 March 2011. This year's event saw the 5km as a walk and run but the 9km as a run only. The 9km course was more challenging with a few hills to tackle that the competitors enjoyed.
The 5 km course around the reserves of Shell Cove saw the front runners coming in just over 16 minutes. First place Senior Male was Michael Bingham (16.25) followed closely by Ilyas Musker (17.33). First place female senior was Angela Saville at a time of (17.36) closely followed by Melanie Foster (18.02). Junior male of the 5km was Dylan McGregor with Carlie Sawtell the first junior female across the line.
The new challenging 9km saw local Ben Scollary (Junior Male) first across the line with a time of (30.49) followed by the first Senior Male Jason Kearin at a time of just over 34 minutes. Manette Kearin was the first Senior Female over the line.
The entertainment by Gilbert kept the crowd including the kids entertained as well as a free jumping castle available for all to enjoy gave everyone time to catch their breath then the draw began which saw everyone have a chance to win some fantastic prizes that were kindly donated by local businesses.
No one went home empty handed whether you were first or bringing home the rear of the field - all entrants received a certificate, drink bottle and a piece of fruit.
After a successful event and must needed funds for the Shellharbour Hospital Auxiliary and the Cancer Council you will see us all back to do it all again next year.
